How To Get To Ciletuh Geopark (From Jakarta, Bandung, or Sukabumi)
The Ciletuh Geopark location is in the far southwest corner of West Java Province, Indonesia. There’s no airport nearby, so the only way to reach it is by road trip.

We personally traveled from Bandung by private driver in a van, then continued on to Jakarta afterward. Roads are mostly in good condition, and it’s also possible (and cheaper) to visit Ciletuh by motorbike or scooter.
Best Things To Do & See at Ciletuh Geopark, West Java
1. Curug Puncak Manik Waterfall, Stunning Twin Falls in the Jungle
One of the top things to do in Ciletuh Geopark is hiking to Curug Puncak Manik, a dramatic 100 meter twin waterfall tucked deep inside the lush West Java jungle.
You’ll likely pass this spot on your drive into Ciletuh, making it a great first stop. The hike to the waterfall takes about 45–60 minutes each way with a steep downhill trail, although improvements to the path are ongoing to make it more accessible. Bring good hiking shoes.
At the bottom, you’ll cross a shallow stream (about ankle to knee deep) and head left to reach the falls. The effort is worth it Curug Puncak Manik is one of the most breathtaking hidden waterfalls in Indonesia, ideal for nature lovers and photographers.
During our visit, we spotted a rare hawk, a giant centipede, and other unique wildlife. A friendly local guide helped us find the trail and take photos we tipped him 50,000 IDR as a thank you.
Curug Awang Waterfall, The Niagara Falls of Ciletuh
Curug Awang is one of the most iconic waterfalls in Ciletuh Geopark, often nicknamed the "Mini Niagara Falls of Indonesia" because of its impressive width and curtain-like water flow over a rocky cliff.
Located near Curug Puncak Manik, this waterfall is easy to access, with a short 5-minute walk to the main viewpoint. For a more immersive experience, you can hike 10 minutes to the top, or take another 5–10 minutes to reach the base for a closer look.
When flowing at full strength especially during the rainy season, Curug Awang becomes one of the best waterfalls in West Java. However, during our visit, the flow had reduced significantly, which was a bit disappointing. If you're planning a trip, try to come during or just after the rainy months for the best views.
Still, it’s a must-see Ciletuh Geopark attraction, especially if you're chasing hidden gems and lesser known natural wonders in Indonesia.
Curug Tengah Waterfall, Hidden Gem in Ciletuh Geopark
Curug Tengah Waterfall is one of the most unique and scenic waterfalls in Ciletuh Geopark, West Java. Located near Curug Awang, both waterfalls share the same parking area, making it easy to visit them together on your trip.
This powerful waterfall maintains a strong flow even in the dry season (April), which makes it one of the best waterfalls to visit in Ciletuh year round.
The walk to the viewpoint is only about 10 minutes, and while it’s possible to reach the bottom, the trail is steep and unmarked. Getting down would likely take another 30 minutes and is best suited for experienced hikers.
We chose to stay at the top for aerial drone shots, and the views were spectacular. Curug Tengah is also one of the best Ciletuh photography spots if you’re looking to capture wide, powerful cascades with a lush jungle backdrop.
urug Cikaso Waterfall, Turquoise Gem in Sukabumi, West Java
Curug Cikaso is one of the most stunning turquoise waterfalls in West Java, located about 1.5 hours from Ciletuh Geopark in the Sukabumi region. Although it’s outside the main geopark area, this natural wonder is absolutely worth the day trip.
To reach Curug Cikaso Sukabumi, you’ll take a 10-minute walk along a scenic cobblestone trail through rice terraces. Alternatively, there’s a boat ride option along the river, but we skipped it due to the extra cost and limited views.
The best time to visit Curug Cikaso is at the start of the dry season, when the water turns a vibrant blue-green turquoise. During the rainy season, the color changes to muddy brown, so plan accordingly for the best experience.
For photography, early morning or late afternoon offers the best lighting conditions. The waterfall is also swimmable, and we spotted small fish and freshwater crabs near the plunge pool, perfect for nature lovers.
Curug Cigangsa Waterfall, Scenic Rice Terrace Falls in Sukabumi
Curug Cigangsa is a scenic hidden gem in Sukabumi, West Java, located about 1 hour from the Ciletuh Geopark. It’s in the same direction as Curug Cikaso, making it easy to visit both waterfalls in a single day trip.
This multi-tiered waterfall is beautifully framed by lush rice terraces, creating a truly photogenic setting. From the parking area, it’s just a 2-minute walk to the top viewpoint, and if you want a closer look, expect a 5–10 minute hike to the bottom.
Keep in mind, Curug Cigangsa waterfall often dries up by May or early dry season, so the best time to visit is during or just after the rainy season. When we visited in April, the flow was already quite low, but it’s still worth a stop if you’re exploring the top waterfalls near Ciletuh Geopark.
This spot is ideal for travelers looking for less crowded waterfalls in West Java with peaceful, natural surroundings.
Main Beach at Ciletuh Geopark, Black Sand & Sunset Views
Main Beach Ciletuh may not be the most stunning beach in Indonesia, but it’s still worth a visit if you’re exploring the Ciletuh Geopark area in Sukabumi, West Java.
Although it’s labeled as a “white sand beach” on Google Maps, the sand is actually dark brown to black, creating a unique contrast with the ocean. This black sand beach offers peaceful vibes, great views, and beautiful sunset photography opportunities.
One of the highlights here is the distant view of Cimarinjung Waterfall, which you can admire right from the beach. It’s also a popular spot for dirt biking and paragliding in West Java, activities often enjoyed by local visitors.
However, be aware that the beach can sometimes have litter and trash, especially during peak weekends. Even so, it’s a great place to unwind, take photos, or just enjoy the laid back coastal atmosphere of South Sukabumi beaches.
Curug Cimarinjung Waterfall, Ciletuh’s Iconic Cascade
Curug Cimarinjung Waterfall is one of the most beautiful and photogenic waterfalls in Ciletuh Geopark, West Java. Located centrally in the geopark, it’s easily accessible via a short 5-minute walk on a paved trail, making it one of the most accessible waterfalls near Sukabumi.
This impressive waterfall flows year round we visited in late April during dry season, and the water volume was still strong. It’s a great spot for nature photography and relaxing in a peaceful natural setting.
You can walk close to the base of Cimarinjung Waterfall, but the rocks near the water are very slippery, so be sure to wear proper footwear and take caution.
If you’re looking for the top waterfalls to visit in West Java, this one should be high on your list. It’s a true hidden gem in Ciletuh Geopark.
Curug Cikanteh Waterfall, The Tallest and Most Majestic Falls in Ciletuh
Curug Cikanteh Waterfall is one of the largest and most breathtaking waterfalls in Indonesia, located in the heart of Ciletuh Geopark, West Java. Towering above the valley, this is easily the most impressive waterfall in Ciletuh and a must see for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
Despite local claims, no guide is required for the base level hike. The trail to the main viewpoint takes just 10 to 15 minutes, crossing a scenic bamboo bridge, and is well marked and beginner friendly.
For a more adventurous experience, you can hike to the second tier of the waterfall. This part is steep and unmarked, so hiring a local guide can be helpful especially for navigating the terrain and getting the best photo angles.
Locals usually request a small entrance donation (around 10k IDR), and we paid a 50k tip to a guide who helped us hike and take stunning pictures.
Pro Tip: Visit in the early morning for soft lighting, or late afternoon to catch the sunlight and rainbows across the waterfall. It’s one of the top photo spots in West Java!
Curug Sodong Waterfall, Easy-Access Twin Falls in Ciletuh Geopark
Curug Sodong Waterfall, also known as the Twin Waterfall of Ciletuh, is one of the most easily accessible waterfalls in Ciletuh Geopark, West Java. Located right next to the parking area for Curug Cikanteh, this stunning double cascade requires no hiking and is perfect for a quick visit or a scenic photo stop.
Despite how it looks in photos, Curug Sodong is surprisingly large in person, especially during the rainy season. In the dry season, however, the water flow can reduce significantly so timing your visit matters for the best views.

Puncak Darma Viewpoint, Best Sunset Spot in Ciletuh Geopark
